BARRE, Vt. (AP) - Vermont has a new deputy secretary of education.

Heather Bouchey of Montpelier has been appointed to the post by Secretary Rebecca Holcombe.

Bouchey succeeds John Fischer, who left in the spring. She joins Deputy Secretary Amy Fowler and CFO Bill Talbott in overseeing work of the 160 employees of the agency.

Bouchey established the Patrick and Marcelle Leahy Center for Rural Students at Lyndon State College, continuing on to become the college’s Associate Dean for Enrollment Management and Institutional Research.

She starts in early September.
