COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Ohio Court of Claims has ruled that Ohio University must pay the $2,870 dental bill for a student who slipped on an icy sidewalk on campus and broke two of her teeth.
Hannah Scolaro of Akron had sued the school in the Court of Claims after the February fall that led to two root canals. She claimed that the school was negligent for failing to remove ice and snow from its sidewalks.
OU had claimed that Scolaro should have been aware of winter weather hazards and taken better precautions.
Scolaro argued that the school didn’t salt sidewalks at a university bus stop used to shuttle students. And she said the school should’ve removed snow and ice at the highly traveled route, noting that other campus sidewalks had been cleared.
