SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) - A look at Thursday’s first round of PGA Championship at 7,501-yard, par-72 Whistling Straits (all times EDT):

Leading: Dustin Johnson, who shot 66.

Pursuing: David Lingmerth at 67, then a group of eight players another shot back.

Tracking Tiger: Woods needed 33 putts on his way to a 3-over 75, nine shots out of the lead.

Key statistic: There were 12 rounds under 70 in the morning, and only two in the afternoon (Lingmerth’s 67, and Scott Piercy’s 68).

Noteworthy: In the same group, the world’s top two players, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth, played to a draw, each shooting 1-under 71.

Quoteworthy: “Whatever David ate this morning, I’d like to eat tomorrow, because that’s a heck of a round of golf in those conditions.” -Spieth on Lingmerth’s 67.

Tick tock: McIlroy, Spieth and the other player in their threesome, Zach Johnson, got put on the clock on No. 15. Most afternoon rounds took around 5 hours.

Shot of the day: McIlroy rolled up his pant leg and treaded into the shallow water beside the fifth green to flop a shot out of the lake. He got up and down to save par.

Key tee times: Spieth, McIlroy, Zach Johnson, 8:05 a.m. Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Jason Day, 1:20 p.m. Woods, Martin Kaymer, Keegan Bradley, 1:30 p.m.

Television: Friday, 2-8 p.m., TNT.
