TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a police dog chasing two suspected car thieves was fatally shot, and one suspect was found dead after a standoff in Ohio.

Toledo police followed the suspects from a car into a vacant home Wednesday evening. Police Chief George Kral says the dog went into the crawl space where the suspect was hiding. The suspect, 27-year-old Reginald Marshall, killed the dog and was hit by return fire from an officer.

The Blade newspaper (https://bit.ly/1L83udp ) reports the other suspect was eventually arrested. Police say it wasn’t clear whether Marshall, who was wanted on a murder warrant, died from police gunfire or self-inflicted wounds.

Police lined up with their hands over their hearts in tribute as workers wheeled away the body of the German Shepherd, named Falco.
