HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The state Department of Public Health says it has confirmed that Planned Parenthood in Connecticut does not participate in any fetal tissue donation programs.

In a letter to Danbury state Sen. Michael McLachlan, an agency official said all tissue from surgical abortions is sent to an outside laboratory to be examined by a pathologist, in accordance with state regulations. Also, Planned Parenthood is not compensated for the tissue.

McLachlan, a Republican, recently asked the Department of Public Health and Attorney General George Jepsen to investigate Planned Parenthood’s practices in Connecticut.

Planned Parenthood has come under scrutiny after anti-abortion activists released undercover videos that raised questions about whether the organization was profiting from the sale of fetal tissue, something the group denies.

McLachlan said Thursday that his questions have been answered.
