GLENDORA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a man wanted for attempted murder drove the wrong way on a Los Angeles-area freeway and then was struck by a car as he attempted to sprint across lanes to elude police.

Officials say the suspect was hospitalized in critical but stable condition following the crash early Thursday on Interstate 210 in Glendora. The eastbound side of the highway has been reopened after being shut for nearly seven hours.

South Gate police Sgt. Chris Dahlia tells City News Service the man was being sought for an attempted murder on Aug. 9.

The pursuit began in Azusa around 12:30 a.m. The suspect drove eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-210, stopped his vehicle near the center divider and attempted to run across the eastbound lanes when he was struck.
