OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas was wrapping up a sweep through several southern states with campaign stops in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

The Republican presidential hopeful stressed the importance of Oklahoma and other Super Tuesday states during a lunch event Thursday with about 500 supporters in Oklahoma City. He planned to follow that with a town hall-style forum in Bartlesville and a later rally in Tulsa.

Cruz began his latest bus tour in South Carolina and then traveled through Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas.

Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania won Oklahoma’s GOP presidential primary in 2012.
