THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - After four and a half years on the job, Thibodaux Police Chief Scott Silverii (sil-VER’-ee) says the same faith that led him to accept the position helped him make the decision to retire.

The city said in a news release Silverii’s last day will be Aug. 28, but no successor has yet been named.

The City Council unanimously approved his appointment in January 2011 and reconfirmed him Dec. 16.

The 50-year-old Thibodaux native said he started thinking about retirement about a year ago. He insists there wasn’t an incident that led to the decision, but rather that God made it clear over the past year that he had other plans for the law enforcement veteran.
