CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming Air National Guard C-130 will be joining the effort to suppress wildfires in California.

The plane with the guard’s 153rd Airlift Wing is equipped with a modular airborne firefighting system that can dump thousands of gallons of water or fire retardant.

It was activated by the U.S. Forest Service on Wednesday with instructions to join the firefighting no later than Friday evening.

The Wyoming plane will join one from North Carolina. They will be based out of the McClellan Airtanker Base in California during the mission.
