SANDWICH, Ill. (AP) - Residents of the DeKalb County town of Sandwich are undertaking a fix of their 135-year-old opera house.

The Sandwich Opera House is home to city hall, a party room for special events, and an auditorium where visitors can see a show.

Sandwich Alderwoman Cara Killey says the town is “uniquely lucky” to have the building.

The Daily Chronicle in DeKalb reports (https://bit.ly/1NtoQQ5 ) the 1878 structure needs repairs, and money is an issue.

Fundraisers are underway. The Indian Valley Theater split profits of a production of “Snoopy!” with the opera house board.

Two more money-raisers are planned - including an actress portraying author Laura Ingalls Wilder in October and one playing British novelist Jane Austen in February.

Sandwich is located 60 miles southwest of Chicago.
