BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama man has pleaded guilty to the shooting death of his pregnant wife.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1DSUk1T ) Brian Epps of Hoover was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole after he pleaded guilty Thursday to capital murder charges. Epps would have faced a possible death sentence if he was convicted by a jury.

Prosecutors say Epps shot his wife, 29-year-old Rashon Deidrenett Bester Epps, on June 28, 2014. The child she was carrying also did not survive.

Prosecutor Megan Cuckler said the slain woman’s family agreed to the plea deal. Epps’ lawyer, David Luker, called it a “very fair” resolution.

Epps told police last year that he shot his wife by accident. Prosecutors said evidence in the case contradicted his story.
