MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a young Detroit man has died while swimming in an old stone quarry in southeastern Michigan.

The body of 19-year-old Deonate Dixon was recovered Thursday by divers from the Monroe County sheriff’s office.

Dixon was swimming with two other young men. State police say one of them tried to help Dixon as he struggled in the water, but the victim didn’t resurface.

The former quarry is not public property and not open for swimming. The water is deep, and the shoreline is rocky.
