NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - The body of an Army Green Beret who was killed in Afghanistan has been returned to his home state of Rhode Island.

First Sgt. Peter Andrew McKenna Jr. died Aug. 7 in Kabul during an attack on a NATO facility.

The body of the 35-year-old Bristol native arrived Friday at the Quonset State Airport in North Kingstown. The Providence Journal reports that police officers and others paid their respects to the 17-year Army veteran as a procession moved through Rhode Island.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday at St. Mary of the Bay Church in Warren. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

A wake has been scheduled for Sunday at the same church from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

State flags are flying at half-staff.
