BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A former Baker day care worker has pleaded no contest to a negligent homicide charge in the October 2010 death of a 2-month-old Zachary infant who was in her care.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1KlKvGI) 27-year-old Ashley Rene Reifer was scheduled to stand trial Aug. 24 on a second-degree murder charge in the death of Brody Hopper.

State District Judge Chip Moore, under the terms of a plea deal, gave Reifer a suspended five-year prison term Friday and put her on active supervised probation for five years. She cannot work at a day care center while on probation.

According to court records, Brody was strapped into his car-carrying seat and bleeding from the nose when his father picked him up from the now-closed Busy Bee Learning Center.
