HELENA, Mont. (AP) - District Court Judge Jeffrey Sherlock of Helena is retiring at the end of the year.

The Judicial Nomination Commission is seeking applications from attorneys interested in serving until the 2016 election. The candidate elected in 2016 will serve for the remainder of Sherlock’s term, which expires in January 2019.

Applications will be accepted through Sept. 13. The public will have a chance to comment on the applications and the commission will forward the names of three to five nominees to Gov. Steve Bullock, who will appoint Sherlock’s successor.

The Judicial Nomination Commission is currently seeking public input on the applications of six people seeking to fill the seat being vacated by District Judge Ted O. Lympus of Kalispell at the end of August.
