BARRE, Vt. (AP) - An ex-boyfriend of a woman accused of killing a Vermont social worker after she lost custody of her child has pleaded not guilty to disorderly conduct and recklessly endangering another person.

Henry Premont of Williamstown was arraigned Thursday. He was taken into custody in Barre Town, Vermont, where they got a call from a relative saying that he was sitting in a vehicle with a gun.

Authorities said that when troopers approached Premont he drew a handgun from inside his shirt. Troopers drew their weapons; he eventually surrendered.

Premont is a former boyfriend of Jody Herring, who is charged with killing social worker Lara Sobel because she was upset about losing custody of her 9-year-old daughter. Herring has pleaded not guilty. Police also believe Herring shot and killed three of her own relatives; charges haven’t been filed in those deaths.
