KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) - A former employee of a New York City agency has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for fatally shooting of a co-worker at their Hudson Valley office building last year.

David Reese of Gilboa received the maximum sentence Thursday in Ulster County Court in Kingston for killing 33-year-old Aron Thomas of Olivebridge.

The 55-year-old Reese shot Thomas on Feb. 3, 2014, inside the Kingston offices of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.

A jury convicted Reese on a second-degree murder charge on June 2.

During his trial, Reese’s defense lawyer said Reese had confronted Thomas because he believed Thomas had broken into his home and was stalking him.

Thomas is survived by his wife and two children, who were ages two and six weeks when the shooting occurred.
