ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The American, POW and New Mexican state flags are flying less often outside an Albuquerque veterans post following the third theft in a month.

KRQE-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1MnO8Ac) Monday marked the third time thieves cut ropes and took down symbols that have been flying outside American Legion Post 99 since it opened in the 1950s.

The post has spent about $300 on new flags, and officials say they can’t afford to keep buying replacements. They urge whoever is targeting the post to stop.

The flags will fly outside the post for an event Saturday and then be taken down again.

Post 99 Officer David Carabajl said it’s sad to steal an American flag from a veterans post, of all places.
