PHOENIX (AP) - One floor of the Maricopa County sheriff’s headquarters in downtown Phoenix has been evacuated after an employee discovered a powdery substance in an envelope while opening mail.

Phoenix Fire Department officials say they’re trying to determine the nature of the substance.

Decontamination crews responded to the scene Friday afternoon at Fifth Avenue and Jackson Street.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he works on the floor that was evacuated.

He says the envelope wasn’t addressed to anyone in particular.
