FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - An officer who was most recently the commanding general of U.S. Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg is taking over as the Army’s top officer.

The Fayetteville Observer reported (https://bit.ly/1TxLwpp) Gen. Mark A. Milley will take over as the Army chief of staff in a ceremony Friday morning at Sommerall Field at Joint Base Henderson-Myer, Virginia.

At the ceremony, Gen. Raymond T. Odierno will relinquish his responsibilities to Milley. Odierno was assigned to the 18th Airborne Corps Artillery at Fort Bragg early in his career.

The four-star general is retiring to a home he bought in Pinehurst.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter, Deputy Defense Secretary Bob Work, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin E. Dempsey will participate in the ceremony.
