CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man is suing Nassau County and six police officers for more than $30 million, claiming he was shot and beaten during a 2013 traffic stop.

Newsday reports (https://bit.ly/1JWN2eJ ) 24-year-old Leo Duchnowski filed the suit Tuesday in federal court, alleging officers used “unnecessary, unreasonable, excessive and deadly force.”

Duchnowski was on parole when he was pulled over July 1, 2013 by officers conducting a drug investigation in Bayville. He had drugs on him at the time, and Duchnowski claims an officer opened fire on his car for that reason.

The suit says Duchnowski was struck in the back before being forcibly removed from his vehicle and beaten.

Nassau police declined to comment.

Nassau County Attorney Carnell Foskey says the county doesn’t comment on pending litigation.
