JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Jacksonville man has been sentenced to death for killing his neighbor.

A Duval County judge sentenced 51-year-old Dennis Thurnado Glover on Friday. He was convicted in December 2013 of first-degree murder. Questions over whether he was intellectually disabled delayed his sentencing.

Police say 51-year-old Sandra Jean Allen was beaten, strangled and stabbed in the neck at her home in May 2012. Glover initially told police that he saw two men fleeing Allen’s home and then found the body inside. The Florida Times-Union (https://goo.gl/dtGAWF ) reports that Glover was arrested a month later after police found Allen’s blood on Glover’s shoes and his DNA on her face, neck and left hand.

Defense attorneys said Glover and Allen were having an affair, which is why his DNA was on her.
