COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A prosecutor says a man suspected of throwing gasoline on his girlfriend and setting her on fire behind a central Ohio gas station has been indicted on aggravated arson and other charges.

The county prosecutor in Columbus says 40-year-old Michael Slager also is charged with felonious assault and having criminal tools in connection with the alleged attack in the Columbus suburb of Gahanna on Aug. 2.

A defense attorney has described the woman as Slager’s fiancee and said that what happened to her was an accident. The attorney previously said Slager was injured while trying to put out the blaze.

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said Thursday that the 31-year-old woman remained in critical condition at a hospital.

Slager’s arraignment is scheduled Monday in Franklin County court.
