SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - A Northern California woman was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the beating death of her elderly mother with a hammer.

The San Jose Mercury News reports (https://bayareane.ws/1JhnUR3 ) Friday that 50-year-old Linde Adrienne Smith was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County jail on suspicion of murder Thursday afternoon following the slaying at a city mobile-home park.

Police say the dead woman was identified as 81-year-old Anne Frances Smith.

An argument preceded the alleged attack, but police did not release additional details, including a precise motive, citing the ongoing investigation, the newspaper reported.
