NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Authorities are working to determine what caused a four-car crash in North Providence.

It happened around 7 p.m. Thursday in the Centerdale area. Police say three cars and a van collided in the intersection and snarled traffic.

Witnesses say one of the drivers appeared to hit the gas instead of the brake and lost control.

It’s not clear how many people were injured.

Crews arrived after the crash to clean up the scene. Police have not released any information but are investigating the incident.
