FARGO, N.D. (AP) - A second trial has been scheduled for a Fargo man accused of killing his roommate.

The first trial for 25-year-old Christopher Hampton ended in a mistrial in late July when the jury could not come to a unanimous decision. He is to be retried beginning Sept. 15.

Hampton has pleaded not guilty to murder in the June 2014 death of 28-year-old Randall Doehner, his cousin.

Hampton said he suspected his cousin of trying to poison him. Medical tests found no poison but did find drugs in Hampton’s system.

A pathologist said evidence indicated Doehner was shot in the back and the head from more than 2 feet away.

Hampton remains in the Cass County Jail.
