SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say they suspect sunlight blinded the driver of a pickup truck sending him over the edge of a Utah mountain where he died.

Chief Deputy Jared Rigby with the Wasatch County Sheriff’s office says 57-year-old Lewis R. Davis drove over the edge of the narrow two-lane Guardsman Pass Road southeast of Salt Lake City as he crested the mountain’s summit. His Ford F-150 rolled to the bottom. He says witnesses driving behind Davis reported also being blinded by the bright sunlight.

The road doesn’t have a guardrail.

Rigby says witnesses also attempted to rescue Davis and perform CPR before he died at the scene.
