TROY, Ala. (AP) - Troy has hired former Southern Miss administrator Jeremy McClain as athletic director.

McClain was introduced on Friday after three years as deputy director of athletics at Southern Miss. He replaces John Hartwell, who left in July to become vice president and athletic director at Utah State.

The 39-year-old McClain oversaw the day-to-day operations of the athletic department at Southern Miss. He was also responsible for generating revenue through licensing, corporate development, fundraising and ticket sales.

McClain headed the search committee that hired Todd Monken as football coach. Monken praised McClain’s ability to communicate and says “Troy couldn’t have made a better hire.”

McClain is a former professional baseball player who was athletic director at Delta State for five years beginning in 2007.
