MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida woman is in jail after authorities say they found 23 cats being held in a self-storage unit.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office reports that 43-year-old Amy Lynn Dvorak was arrested Thursday and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty.

Deputies found the cats after employees at the Merritt Island storage facility noticed the smell. Authorities say the cats were left without food or proper air conditioning or ventilation. The unit was covered in feces and urine.

Florida Today (https://goo.gl/2eZvH3) reports that Dvorak was being held on $57,500 bail.
