PORT ORANGE, Fla. (AP) - Police say a woman whose body was found floating in a central Florida river died under suspicious circumstances.

Someone called 911 on Wednesday morning after spotting the body of 28-year-old Crystal Pifer floating near a marina in Port Orange. The caller said the body was shirtless and had bruises on the shoulder area.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (https://bit.ly/1PbMwsN ) reports Pifer was involved in a disturbance aboard a boat in South Daytona on Thursday night. A man called 911, saying that Pifer had jumped from her boat into the water and climbed into his sailboat. He said the woman told him her boyfriend was beating her.

Police say the woman returned to her boyfriend’s boat and according to an incident report, the argument continued.

Pifer’s body was found the next morning.
