WAYNE, N..J (AP) - State police say a sport utility vehicle crashed into the back of a dump truck stopped on the shoulder of Route 80, killing two men and leaving another seriously injured.

But it’s not yet clear what caused the crash, which occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday in the eastbound lanes near exit 53 in Wayne.

The SUV’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and one of his passengers died a short time later at a hospital. The other passenger was hospitalized in critical condition, but further details on his injuries were not immediately disclosed.

No one was in the dump truck when the crash occurred.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
