FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Fort Bragg will celebrate the 75th anniversary of airborne forces with events on the post and in Fayetteville.

The Fayetteville Observer reports (https://bit.ly/1DRperu) city and military officials will host a National Airborne Day ceremony Saturday at the Airborne & Special Forces Operations Museum downtown.

The event takes place the day before the anniversary of the Army’s first parachute jump on Aug. 16, 1940.

The event will feature displays of Army equipment and demonstrations by the U.S. Army Parachute Team, the Golden Knights, and the U.S. Army Special Operations Command Parachute Team, the Black Daggers.

On Sunday, a Fort Bragg unit that traces its history to the original Parachute Test Platoon will mark the anniversary with an airborne operation and informal ceremony at Sicily Drop Zone.
