HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Anglers will have a second opportunity to fish for free in Connecticut waters.

Saturday marks the second of two free-fishing license days across the state. Residents and non-residents will be able to obtain a free one-day fishing license for both inland and marine districts through the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s online sportsmen licensing system.

They can also be obtained at any venue that sells fishing licenses.

Saturday also marks Saltwater Fishing Day. An event is planned at Fort Trumbull State Park in New London.

DEEP Deputy Commissioner Susan Whalen said studies have shown that people who are hesitant about taking up fishing often cite the license fee as an impediment. She said the free-fishing license days are designed to encourage people to get outdoors and pursue the sport.
