OLD LYME, Conn. (AP) - Two crashes, one fatal, closed part of Interstate 95 in both directions for hours in Old Lyme.

The northbound side of the highway was reopened just before 2 p.m. , and all but one southbound lane reopened by 4 p.m.

Both the crashes early Saturday morning between Old Lyme and Old Saybrook involved tractor-trailers.

The fatal crash occurred around 6 a.m. on the northbound side at Exit 70 near Baldwin Bridge. Two tractor-trailers and five cars were involved. One person was killed and several seriously injured.

The first crash was on the southbound side. Police say a truck driven by 62-year-old Arturo Paez of Stratford caught fire after it went off the road and struck a concrete bridge support at around 4:30 a.m. between Exits 70 and 71. He was taken by helicopter to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
