ELIZABETHTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - An Essex County man has been convicted of second-degree murder and possessing a weapon in the 2012 shooting death of his younger brother.

Jurors returned guilty verdicts against 73-year-old David Lang Friday in Essex County Court.

Lang previously pleaded guilty in 2013 to shooting 63-year-old Russell Lang to death during an argument at their Crown Point home. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, but later appealed claiming his plea wasn’t voluntary. A state appeals court threw out his manslaughter conviction in April saying he was “coerced” into pleading guilty.

The defense argued David did not mean to shoot his brother and that the bullet deflected off a lilac branch.

Prosecutors noted that he told troopers he had wanted his brother dead for a long time.
