MIAMI (AP) - A South Florida man has been sentenced to 3 years in prison for a fatal hit-and-run crash.

A Miami-Dade judge sentenced 63-year-old Robert Sheffield on Friday for leaving the scene of an accident involving death.

Authorities say 73-year-old Louis Anderson was walking across an Opa-locka street in April 2014 when Sheffield’s truck hit her. Sheffield drove off, but police caught up with him a few blocks away. He told officers he knew he had hit someone but kept driving because he panicked.

The Miami Herald (https://goo.gl/jFyFw4 ) reports that tests taken the night of the crash revealed Sheffield was not drunk, but he admitted he had just left a bar where he was watching a Miami Heat game.
