BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The speaker of the New York Assembly is hailing efforts to revitalize Buffalo’s economy.

Bronx Democrat Carl Heastie travelled to the city for a three-day visit that began on Wednesday. It’s part of a series of trips to upstate communities which Heastie says are designed to give him a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the entire state.

During his visit to Buffalo Heastie met with local business owners, elected leaders, educators and residents.

Heastie says the trip is also intended to beat back the impression that the Assembly’s Democratic majority is too focused on the needs of New York City.
