YORKTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - Police say three people have died and eight others have been injured after a multi-vehicle crash on the Taconic State Parkway in Westchester.

New York State Police say it happened just before 3 p.m. Saturday in Yorktown.

Police say the crash involved four cars and occurred on the south side of the parkway, north of Baldwin Road.

Investigators believe an SUV was heading north when it crashed into the center median, went airborne and landed in the southbound lanes.

Police say one person was critically injured. Five others are in stable condition at Westchester Medical Center.

Two additional victims injured in the crash were treated at another hospital and released.

Investigators from the State Police Reconstruction Unit were still investigating.

Police did not immediately identify the victims.
