COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - The 20-year-old son of a western Iowa man who was fatally shot in his home has been arrested in Colorado.

The Council Bluffs Nonpareil reports (https://bit.ly/1ITY28b ) police believe Sean Schendel killed his father, 55-year-old Robert Schendel, before his body was found Wednesday after he didn’t show up for work.

Investigators determined that Sean Schendel had taken money from his father’s account and a 1998 Dodge Caravan before heading west. He was found Friday at a hotel in Sterling, Colorado.

Council Bluffs police investigators went to Sterling to interview Sean Schendel and obtained enough evidence for a warrant for first-degree murder.

Sean Schendel remained in a Colorado jail on Saturday awaiting extradition to Iowa.
