SUNNYVALE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a police officer in the Northern California city of Sunnyvale shot and killed a man in a commercial area after responding to a call involving two men.

Sunnyvale public safety Capt. Shawn Ahearn tells the San Jose Mercury News (https://bayareane.ws/1WwrUAQ) officers had been responding to a report of suspicious circumstances at a motel when the shooting occurred Saturday.

Ahearn says officers were responding to a call involving two men and that one of the men was shot, and the other fled from police.

He says no officers were injured.

Police said late Saturday that they recovered a handgun next to the body of the deceased suspect and that the fleeing suspect was “believed to be armed and dangerous.”
