POST, Texas (AP) - Demolition has been set for an elementary school in a small West Texas town that was heavily damaged by a fire last year.

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal (https://bit.ly/1hgc6SX ) reports that demolition will start later this month while construction is set to being on a new elementary by early November. The new school is expected to be completed by early 2017.

Superintendent Mike Comeaux says that in the meantime, a former high school will continue to serve as the elementary school.

Fire broke out at the elementary on the morning Sept. 21, 2014. Since it was a Sunday, the school was unoccupied. The State Fire Marshal’s Office said in March it was unable to determine a specific cause of the fire.

Post is located about 40 miles southeast of Lubbock.
