NEW SALEM, N.D. (AP) - Authorities say a fire has burned hundreds of acres of land in central North Dakota.

The Mandan rural fire department says a fire consumed well over 600 acres of land north of Interstate 94 near exit 134. A combine may have been responsible for igniting the blaze.

KXMB-TV reports a power transmission line was damaged by the blaze, causing power outages in New Salem, Almont and Judson.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol closed the westbound lane of the interstate for about an hour as the fire grew closer to the highway.
