LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles authorities say firefighters discovered a man’s body after extinguishing a blaze in a detached garage at a Van Nuys home.

City Fire spokesman Brian Humphrey says a neighbor suffered a minor injury and smoke inhalation trying to rescue the victim early Sunday.

Humphrey says firefighters were dispatched to the scene shortly after 4:30 a.m., and had the fire out in less than 15 minutes.

City News Service reports the garage had been converted into a dwelling with no electrical service, and candles had been used for light.

Neighbors say the victim was a man in his 50s.
