ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation to extend the three-rod rule for the state’s freshwater fishermen through 2017.

The law says any angler can use up to three fishing lines. It was set to expire at the end of this year.

Sponsors note that it won’t guarantee they catch more fish, but it should increase the odds.

They also say it shouldn’t damage the state’s fisheries overall since catch limits remain in effect.
