MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Olympic gold medalist Phil Dalhausser and April Ross successfully defended their titles Sunday in the AVP Manhattan Beach Open.

Dalhausser, a resident of Manhattan Beach, won his fifth Manhattan Beach Open title and helped partner Nick Lucena to his first. They beat Tri Bourne and John Hyden 21-19, 21-17 in the final.

Dalhausser also the event with Todd Rogers from 2006-08 and Sean Rosenthal in 2014.

Top-seeded Ross and Jennifer Fopma beat fifth-seeded Nicole Branagh and Jenny Kropp 21-15, 26-24 in the women’s final. For Ross, it was her 23rd AVP win and 10th victory in the last 11 AVP tournaments, dating to the beginning of the 2014 season. Eight of those titles came with three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings, who is rehabilitating a shoulder injury.
