RENO, Nev. (AP) - Police say they’ve arrested a 24-year-old Reno man suspected of striking a Reno police officer with his Mercedes Benz before the officer fired at the fleeing car.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s office says 24-year-old Russell Kirk Roberts was arrested early Saturday at a motel in Reno and taken to a hospital to treat a gunshot wound in his leg.

Deputy Jeff McCaskill says Roberts will be booked into jail for outstanding warrants and other charges after he’s treated.

McCaskill said Sunday that the gunshot wound may have come from the officer firing at Roberts’ car but police have not yet confirmed that.

The officer was hit by the Mercedes after arriving at a Reno bar following reports of a dispute over a bar tab.

McCaskill says the officer was released from a hospital after being treated for minor injuries.
