PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - When players gathered for a sports tournament in Portland’s Grant Park, they brought their broomsticks.

KATU-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1TLhpL2 ) that the park was taken over for Quidditch competitions on Saturday. The full-contact sport is based off the airborne game featured in the Harry Potter books and movies.

Quidditch has become an organized sport with more than 150 official teams in the United States. Saturday’s event attracted teams from as far away as Utah and Canada.

The ground-based version of the game involves running with the broomsticks while trying to score points by putting different balls through hoops. Tournament director Kym Couch says it’s a bit like dodgeball with some elements of flag football.
