HONOLULU (AP) - A strong El Nino means storm preparation for most Hawaii residents, but for some business owners the inclement weather isn’t all bad news.

KITV-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1NzgPZM ) that El Nino brings more waves and sometimes larger ones, and that’s a boon for surf businesses.

Todd Pinder has been shaping surfboards for more than a decade and says demand for big wave boards doubles or nearly triples when El Nino arrives.

The weather system occurs sporadically and can last anywhere from six months to four years. Some surfboard companies are already stocking up in anticipation of El Nino’s waves.

It’s not just smaller manufacturers like Pinder noticing the boom in business. Town and Country Surf’s Larry Yepes says business has picked up as the storm warnings keep coming.
