MONTPELLIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont police have charged the former manager of a Montpelier dentist’s office with embezzlement.

The Times Argus reports (https://bit.ly/1J7HYip ) that 55-year-old Allison Schy pleaded not guilty on Thursday to felony counts of embezzlement and theft of services.

According to a police affidavit, Dr. Kenneth Kero reported to police in November that he suspected his office manager - Schy - was stealing money from his business. She had worked for him for seven years before leaving in April/

Kero told police he discovered discrepancies in his billing ledgers for in 2014. He said an accountant he hired to review his books determined Schy took at least $48,000 and said another $20,000 in billings was questionable.

Police say that when Kero confronted Schy, she told him she may be addicted to painkillers.
