WARREN, R.I. (AP) - Public memorials have begun in Rhode Island for an Army Green Beret who was killed in Afghanistan.

First Sgt. Peter Andrew McKenna Jr. died Aug. 7 in Kabul during an attack on a NATO facility. The body of the 35-year-old Bristol native arrived Friday at the Quonset State Airport in North Kingstown.

His wake is being held Sunday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Mary of the Bay in Warren. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday at the same place. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Police in Warren are expecting heavy traffic and large crowds. They’re asking drivers to take alternate routes through town.

State flags are flying at half-staff.
